 I read the piece in Shots about urgent care centers not taking patients who might have claims reimbursed by auto or health insurers.

          I was rather surprised that you have to go all the way to the bottom to see that, indeed, the urgent care center is almost definitely likely not the place you want to get care.

          If you have a headache and/or stiff neck after a vehicle accident, you may very well need a CT. Urgent care centers do not have CTs. Nor are they equipped with the technical expertise and diagnostic skill to find out if you might have an injury requiring immediate attention.

          Never go to an urgent care center after a car accident, especially if you have a headache, tingling, or a stiff neck!

Go to an emergency room that has 7/24 capabilities, preferably to a major hospital. 

 

          REBER: When our boys were young, the Kaiser emergency room was a frequent destination. It was always crowded and struck me as the perfect distribution point for germs.

          At some point (years ago) Kaiser placed a $50 charge for an emergency room visit. The next time I went I was the only one in the whole place.

          I don’t believe the $50 charge applies these days. We have visited the emergency room in Palomar Hospital several times recently, and there was no charge.

          I’m told that the new building going up beside the San Marcos Kaiser is a hospital. I’m all for that. I was at the hospital on Zion today. Huge place, and they should issue visitors guide dogs to navigate that maze.

Expensive food

Good evening, 919 Gang. If you are wondering about your next vacation destination, I read something interesting recently.

In 2005 Jochen Zeitz, CEO of Harley-Davidson, bought 50,000 acres in Kenya. The land was mostly used for cattle ranches. Zeitz, got rid of the cows, tore down the fences and created a wildlife preserve where the animals could roam freely, often shadowed by tourists and their cameras.

Naturally, Zeitz provides housing. Accommodations START at $1,895 per PERSON per NIGHT. That seemed expensive until I realized that meals are probably included. That makes a difference.

If you want the economy option, I suggest you visit the Wild Animal Park near Escondido. You will see the same animals, plus many, many more. But I should warn you: The admission ticket does not cover the cost of food.
