Good evening, 919 Gang. I apologize for the recent gap in communication. I am coming off minor surgery, and while my mind is back to its usual high-speed befuddlement, my body just wants to sleep.
It really was very minor surgery. I asked the doctor, “Is there going to be much pain?” She replied, “No. I’ve done a number of these and I have never experienced any pain.”

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but to be remembered in such sweet and loving ways makes me happy he lived.

Has anyone else been outraged by the skyrocketing increase in CNA's 2023 annual premium for long-term care? Mine went from $693.03 (which I thought was an unconscionable increase from previous years) in 2022 to more than $1,000! I feel trapped; this seems like borderline extortion: I can't cancel without forfeiting thousands of dollars I've already paid for this future care that, if I'm lucky, I might not even need. We are, in essence, being charged for living this long!
Does anyone want to join me in protesting this increase, which surely will happen again to the large pool of boomers. Any other suggestions or ways of contesting? Thanks.

Heard a revealing Q&A. Jew-turned-Christian Corey Nathan, whose podcast is called "Talkin‘ Politics & Religion Without Killin‘ Each Other," chatted knowledgeably with U-T news editor Dave Clary about his book "Soul Winners."
Stuff I didn't know about Dave:
He's a Yankees fan (from his New York State days) who also has returned to favoring the Buffalo Bills.
He grew up in a Catholic household that debated religion and politics — "what you're not supposed to talk about at the dinner table."
His grandmother took him to a Pentecostal church service. "That always stuck with me — the dedication that evangelicals have."
A news nerd, he read the NYT in middle school.
He told Nathan: "Journalists feel like this is a calling," likening it to those who go into religious work. "A mission for us is to pursue the truth with fairness and vigor."
Dave told Nathan about how the pandemic gave him time to write:
"The easiest thing in the world is find an excuse not to write. When the pandemic hit, ... got a write of writing done. It was something I can control. It kind of saved me in a way."
